| “Cortona
isn’t a place you could find by chance, you have
to know exactly where it is in order to reach it, even
if it seats on his hill in front of you.
Cortona it is hardly evident to an eye as it dissolves
itself as dust into the indefinable tonalities of earth,
olive trees and the sky. Therefore Cortona can be recognized
only from the one who is able to look for it and find
it out between many other colours.
Cortona reveals itself, mostly in the night time, when
it appears to everybody’s eyes like a small universe
of twinkling stars, a constellation fallen down to our
earth and stuck upon a hill.”
Prof. Nicola Caldarone
Montepulciano is pretty town located
between Val di Chiana and Val d’Orcia. Just 20
minutes from Cortona. The landscape, full of olive grows
and vineyards is nicely framed by cypresses all around,
making of it a typical Tuscan place.
From the main tower of this beautiful town there is
a great view on Monti Sibillini, Monte Cimone and Gran
Sasso (Abruzzo) in sunny days. San Biagio’s church
is a real masterpiece of art, by Antonio Sangallo il
Vecchio (1518-45), which rises up from the Hill of Montepulciano.
Made of travertine contains a very famous Andrea della
Robbia earthenware. Small medieval town very close to
Cortona, Lucignano, well known for
the famous Tree of Life. A big copper tree, which used
to be symbol for life and happiness, an old legend tells
that it brings good luck to the couples, once touched.
